This art edition is limited to just two.
It is a vinyl and cassette boxset, containing the sound map on cassette, with cassette box and j-card, a signed print of the script that accompanies the sound map, in a plastic envelope, the vinyl album inspired by the sound map (Vicarious Life, 2022), insert, a transparent 7'single (labelled Side A: Bleep, Click, Buzz. Side B: Hiss, Swoosh, Zap) of the tracks Vicarious Life and Production Line, 5 instant photos, in a reconditioned black record box, with inside artwork (see photos).

An intimate sound map, prepared for the course on ‘Deep Listening & Soundscape Recording’ with Prof. Mikel.R.Nieto, for the Masters in Sound Art at the University of Barcelona.

Just two of these sounds are mine. The rest are borrowed sounds and clips from a vast sound map of minimal synth sound artists.

These sounds inspired the music that appeared on the 2022 LP, Vicarious Life by Le Cliché on Polytechnic Youth Records, London.

Bleep, Click, Buzz, Hiss, Swoosh, Zap.
An intimate sound map

There exists, an intimate map of sounds,
that accompanies me, always.
A sonic companion.
An intangible entity that fills my personal spaces.
This sound map, this auditory experience, defies easy description in words.
It is not solely, about the music, the lyrics, or the melodies, but rather, the tactile sensations evoked by the sound.

At its core, this sound embodies an analogue essence.
A lofi quality, of an era of simplicity and naivety.
An amateur ethos, unbound, unpolished.

It resonates with mono-synthesizers,
the Tascam tape machine,
and the humble cassette tape.

It thrives on DIY electronics, and embraces imperfections.
Unquantised and unsequenced, it often finds expression through human hands not rigid programming.
It bears the marks of its flaws, blurring the line between the electronic, and the human.

Hiss and white noise are its companions.
Adding texture and character to its sonic fabric.
At times, it assumes a sharp and metallic demeanour.
Cold, distant, and detached.
Yet, it can also emanate warmth, wrapping us in an atmospheric embrace that transcends time.

The allure of this sound lies in its simplicity and repetition.
Hypnotic and mesmerising.
Reverb and echo create an expansive sonic canvas,
that reverberates with depth and haunting allure.

It possesses an ethereal quality that defies definition, as if floating between worlds ever-present, yet elusive.

This sound is understated,
often straying slightly out of tune,
embodying its idiosyncratic character.

It transports us to a past future.
Of possibilities unexplored, futures unrealised, and echoes of before.

Bleep, Click, Buzz, Hiss, Swoosh, Zap.
